We are very proud of our recent work on a project designed for Healthy Start, a healthy eating initiative based out of Saskatoon.
Healthy Start is a bilingual health promotion initiative aimed at increasing healthy eating and physical activity opportunities in early learning environments. Healthy Start, initially developed in Saskatchewan with funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada, has since expanded to New Brunswick.
Healthy Start offers direct support to early years directors, educators, and cooks by providing training sessions, follow-up and ongoing support. By sharing their rich collection of resource,s they additionally work to ensure all those involved in the care of young children have access to information on best and promising practices when it comes to nutrition and physical activity.
The Healthy Start team came extremely prepared to our first meeting. With outlines, examples and drawings, they had a definite vision for the end goal of the website.
The project came with several requirements;
- a content management system the end users could utilize to add/edit their own content without assistance from a developer
- the design had to closely match the already existing printed material
- mailing list setup and integration
- social media integration
- areas to feature staff members, partners, resources, frequently asked questions, etc
- a modern and clean design
- a user-editable photo carousel on the home page
- multilingual (versions in both french and english)
The largest part of this project was implementing the multilingual aspect. The website had to have the same content, both in english and french. We chose to use the popular WPML plugin to achieve this.
For the design portion of the project, we chose to build a custom theme from scratch. This allowed us to have the most flexibility of template options for all of the different custom post types used in the site.
We would like to say thanks to the Healthy Start team for a great experience. It was a pleasure working with you.
UPDATE: September 5, 2014 – Healthy Start was kind enough to provide us with a testimonial.
Kevin Pryce has almost become an official member of our team – taking on our website was an ambitious undertaking! His professionalism and meticulous care in achieving results has been a great asset to our project. We asked… and Kevin delivered – in both English and French! Not only are we pleased with the aesthetic look and functionality of our new site but we love how easy it is to maintain. Thank you to Lime Communications! You did a great job and we love getting positive comments on our site!
